The World’s Most Expensive Bugatti Is for Sale Again

Date:

A One-Off Bugatti With a Mysterious Story

There’s nothing quite like the Bugatti La Voiture Noire. It’s a one-off, much like today’s Brouillard, a tribute to the brand’s heritage – specifically, a reminiscence of a Type 57 SC Atlantic that Jean Bugatti famously “misplaced.”

While that should already make for a special backstory, the La Voiture Noire adds more intrigue beyond its design. First unveiled in 2019, the car was delivered to its unnamed buyer in 2021 after undergoing years of final adjustments and production. Bugatti never disclosed who bought the one-off, adding mystery to an already rare creation.

Now, only four years after that delivery, the owner is quietly offering it for sale, making the hypercar available again to a select few collectors.

Private Treaty Sale Through SBX Cars

The sale is being handled by SBX Cars, a division of Supercar Blondie, through its Private Treaty Sales Program. Not everyone who thinks they have enough moolah can participate in the auction, though. Interested parties must request an invitation to access the network and begin discreet negotiations.

Clearly, this is the ultimate collector’s opportunity, which justifies the SBX’s decision to negotiate behind closed doors. The program focuses on pre-qualified bidders and personalized dealings rather than a public auction – a confidential transaction aimed at high-net-worth individuals.

With a Price That Reflects the Exclusivity

La Voiture Noire is one of the most ambitious Bugattis ever built, created to honor Jean Bugatti’s lost Type 57 SC Atlantic of the 1930s. Its carbon-fiber body wears a deep “Black Carbon Glossy” finish, punctuated by headlights with more than 25 individually milled elements on each side. Inside, Havana Brown grain leather recalls the interior of Jean Bugatti’s own Atlantic.

Underneath, Bugatti’s 8.0-liter W16 engine delivers 1,479 horsepower and 1,180 lb-ft of torque – performance figures fit for a grand tourer with hypercar credentials. Those six tailpipes aren’t just there as a design exercise.

When first sold, the La Voiture Noire was the most expensive new vehicle ever, purchased for €11 million before tax, or roughly $13.4 million at the time, according to Bugatti. With the mysterious owner now choosing to sell it, the La Voiture Noire enters the market as more than a collector’s item but an acquisition for those who have the means. Although it’s just sad, we won’t know how much that exchange would be worth, given the nature of the confidential sale.
